Turf grasses live in an unnatural environment. These grass
plants are crowded together and compete with each other, neighboring
trees and shrubs for water and nutrients. This competition is the
reason for fertilizer. When properly fertilized, a lawn maintains
good color, density and vigor. Fertilized lawns are less susceptible
to insects, weeds and diseases.
A well-planned
fertilization program is a basic aspect of proper lawn maintenance.
The goal of a good program is to produce a reasonable amount of
top growth without adversely affecting root growth or carbohydrate
storage. Our fertilization program avoids excessive top growth by
using slow release fertilizers. These fertilizers help to give your
lawn a continuous feeding. Dirty 1 Lawn & Landscape provides
your lawn with the nutrients it needs for optimum growth. Our fertilization
program consists of three facets, fertilizer treatments, weed control
treatments and soil testing.
The five fertilizer treatments are given throughout the growing
season. These treatments supply all of the necessary nutrients needed
to maintain a vigorous turf (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium).
Four
weed control treatments restrict annual grassy weeds and broadleaf
weeds.
We also
perform a soil test to determine the pH level, available phosphorus,
potassium, calcium and magnesium levels. The soil test will
determine whether on not lime is needed, what type of lime to apply,
and how much lime, phosphorus and potassium is needed. Limestone
helps balance and maintain your lawn's healthy pH level by making
your soil less acidic. An unhealthy pH will cause your lawn to be
unhealthy and stagnate.
